Drinking water source protection

A plan to protect the sources of municipal drinking water is in place for the Grand River watershed.

You can learn more about the plan on the website of the Lake Erie Source Protection Region. The Grand River watershed is one of four in the region. On the website you can read the plan and learn how it affects you.

The plan was developed under the Ontario Clean Water Act. The Act was passed by the Ontario government in 2006 in response to the Walkerton tainted water tragedy.

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change approved the Grand River Source Protection Plan in November 2015. The plan outlines policies and programs to protect water sources from contamination and depletion.
