Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety

The weather system forecasted this weekend is expected to bring 20-30 mm of rain across the entire Grand River watershed, with higher amounts possible in the northern part of the watershed and in localized areas if thunderstorms occur. There is a possibility of freezing rain across the watershed as well. This rain event is expected to start today, Friday, March 28, 2025, and last until Monday, March 31, and will result in increased river flows throughout the Grand River watershed.

No significant flooding is expected with this event; however, river flows in local waterways will be higher than normal for this time of year, increasing the risk in low-lying areas typically prone to flooding.

GRCA Reservoirs

GRCA reservoirs are at their normal operating level for this time of year and will be used to reduce the risk of downstream flooding.

Public Safety

The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses. Recreational users near local waterways should be aware of the current conditions and exercise additional caution.

River conditions and forecasts are being monitored closely, and any flood messages will be issued as needed.

This message will remain in effect until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
