Haldimand Children’s Water Festival and Partner Luncheon

The fourth Haldimand Children’s Water Festival at the Grand River Conservation Authority’s (GRCA) Taquanyah Nature Centre will help 500 elementary school students splash their way to a better understanding of water: where it comes from, how we use it, and how we can protect and conserve it.

Students from Haldimand County, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation will take part in more than 20 fun, interactive games during their one-day visit to the festival, held at the Taquanyah Nature Centre on May 23 and 24. The festival is free-of-charge for school students to attend.

“Since its inception, the Haldimand Children’s Water Festival has helped teach more than 1,200 students about how valuable water is as a resource in our community” says GRCA festival organizer, Sue Brocklebank.

The festival receives support from the following sponsors and partners: Ontario Trillium Foundation, Rotary Club of Dunnville, GRCA, Ontario Power Generation, Ken Mt. Pleasant, Grand River Conservation Foundation (GRCF), Ruthven Park, Habitat Haldimand, Haldimand County, Haldimand Museums, Haldimand County Public Library, Long Point Region Conservation Authority, Veolia, Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit, Safari Niagara, Grand Erie District School Board, Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board.

The festival has run annually since October 2014 through the support of the GRCF and other community partners. A $94,400 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has supported the festival since 2016.

An agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.
